Please see below a copy of our Welcome to the Unit Letter. On the paper copy we sent home last week, apologies but we had the wrong date for when our unit is finishing. We will finish on Friday the 17th of April. We hope that you have had an opportunity to read through this letter with your child and we encourage you to support their learning and understanding throughout this unit of inquiry.

Student-led Conferences

This is to let you know about the upcoming Student-Led Conferences, which are due to take place on Wednesday, February 11th, from 12.45 to 16.00.

Student-Led Conferences are an integral part of an IB School's year, and we sincerely hope that you will join us to celebrate in your child's learning. Our first conferences last year were overwhelmingly successful, and we hope to make this year's even better.

For those of you who are unfamiliar; a Student-Led Conference is exactly what it says. The students will prepare their classrooms with activities and examples of their work. The conferences give the children an opportunity to share their progress and successes, to display their portfolios and to reflect on their learning. For the adults, it gives a taste of what their children have been learning about.

This is the format for this year's conferences:

  • Students and their parents have been assigned a 20-minute time slot in the afternoon. The letter with your time slot went home this week. If your time slot is inconvenient, please contact your class teacher as soon as possible to re-book.The teachers will work together to make sure that parents of siblings will get times as close together as possible. ‘

  • To allow access to all activities, only four children and their adults will be in the room at a time. It is therefore important that you be on time to avoid inconveniencing other families. There will be a five minute "overlap" period between sessions to tidy up and re-set displays and activities. As well as this, portfolios can be taken out of the room (but not the school) if you'd like to spend more time looking through them.

  • Giving feedback is an important part of the Student-Led Conference, so we would greatly appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback on what you saw and experienced. This may take different forms, such as written forms, blog comments, leaving comments on video, et cetera.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Welcome back and a very Happy New Year to you all. Please see below the Welcome letter for our new unit and what we will be covering this term. It would be great if you take the time to share this with your child and discuss with them what they think we might be learning about. As our unit is all about Communities, we would really appreciate if any of you would like to come into class and tell us a little bit about your job and how you contribute to the community. Please email us if you would be interested in coming into class, we can work around a time that suits you.

Thank you.

11/12/14

11th December 2014

The final week before the winter vacation is always filled with extra activities outside the normal routines. Next week is no exception for Grade 1. Below is a few details of the week’s plan to help you prepare your child for the change’s accordingly.

Wednesday 17th December
Obviously, the school concert is on Wednesday. The children will not be going home before the show. This means that they will need lunch and an extra snack packed in their bags. It should also be noted that the children will be walking to the Asker Kulterhus, so please make sure their backpack is one they can carry on their own. Regarding costumes, the children will need to wear the following:
Trees: Green top and brown/black trousers
Trolls: All black (can make a tail)
Family: Jeans and lumberjack style top

Thursday 18th December
Unless we have really icy conditions underfoot, we plan to visit the forest behind the school for some outside fun in the snow. Please make sure your child is wearing a woolen underlayer on that day and dress appropriately.

Friday 19th December
School finishes at 12:30 on Friday, as is the last day before the Winter vacation. We will be having a ‘celebration party’ from 11:30 - 12:30. If you would like to provide any traditional celebratory food for the classes to share, please email to let us know. The food and/or drinks can be brought in on Friday morning. At 12:15 we invite parents to join us for the end of the party to give the opportunity for the children to show you their classroom and the learning that has taken place during this semester. From 12:30, it is dismissal time and we encourage all parents to clean out their child’s locker with them. We will not be walking the children out for collection on this day, so you will need to come into the school and collect them. SFO will be running as normal. If you need to make arrangements, please do so through the school office.

Regards,

Mr Brent & Miss Angie
